You'll practice the C and A Shape Patterns over the C-F-G major chord progression mp3 file (from Unit 1 Lesson 2).

Play the Unit 1 Lesson 2 mp3 file (this is the backing track of the C-F-G chord progression).

As the backing track plays:
  • Play the C Shape Pattern of the C Major Pentatonic Scale over the C Major chord (bars 1 and 2).
  • Play the A Shape Pattern of the F Major Pentatonic Scale over the F Major chord (bars 3 and 4).
  • Play the C Shape Pattern of the G Major Pentatonic Scale over the G Major chord (bar 5).
  • Play the A Shape Pattern of the F Major Pentatonic Scale over the F Major chord (bar 6).

On bars 1 through 4:
  • Start on the 6th string and play down to the 1st string.
  • From the 1st string play up to the 6th string.

On bars 5 and 6:
  • You can choose the notes to play from the indicated Shape Pattern.

Use alternate picking.
